Heli's Hanger (everything chopper related, quadcopters too!)

Post

I figured I would start a new thread where everyone can come and talk about anything Helicopter/quadcopter related. I think we have more people in our area that fly these crazy machines but haven't found a way to connect to them. Maybe this will help. So chat away!!!

All of my quads and helicopters are broken… ☹️

Good idea AJ. We've got some folks who should benefit from the thread. You'll probably have to start things going.

Good job, AJ. If more people realize there is a thread going, they'll join in and expand the awareness of them!

What happened to them Andrew? For me this hardest thing past learning to hover was not losing orientation. That goes for multi-rotors as well!

My quad-copter crashed while I was attempting to make a banked corner (similar to flying fixed wing) and ended up with a cart-wheel, yard sale crash! As long as I keep it to the forward/backward, left/right, and rotation, I am fine. But anytime I try to fly my quad-copter like a fixed wing, I crash. :-(

My helis suffer the same fate once I try to progress from basic maneuvers.

Of course it doesn't help that I start seeing $ signs in replacement parts anytime I fly my heli/quad-copter….

I haven't flown in a few months because we have a new baby, but the heli lab has been getting some action.

I have a Gaui NX7 700 sized nitro helicopter with a YS 96 Tareq Edition engine that has started to get broken in. Its all ready for a maiden flight… just need a free weekend.

Also, I have a SAB Fireball 280 pre-ordered that should ship out tomorrow. I have all the trimmings for it waiting for a kit to come in the mail.

Everything else is just begging to flown.

Well hello Anthony. Good to see you back on here. Did you have a boy or girl? I trust everything is going well.

That Guai NX7 will be a really nice heli Anthony. I love my X5. I imagine you will be using a ikon fbl on it which should be a nice setup. Question, why did you decide to go nitro instead of electric on this one?

I've been getting things ready for a new little boy that was born this week. Everything is going very well. Just been baby busy. Hope everyone else here has been well.

The NX7 is a pretty beefy model and seems to have very few issues. It's setup with an ikon since I know it so well and isn't affected by vibrations as Vbar.

I really wanted to go back to nitro after listening to the RCHN podcast and there aren't that many Nirto models anymore. Really there's only the Synergy N7, Trex 700n, and the Gaui NX7 models available in Nitro. I had a Trex 700n and Synergys are expensive to crash. So the Gaui was my pick especially because it's looks the best out of the three.

Hopefully, I'll be able to see your X5 in the air sometime. They're well known to fly very well, but I've never seen one before.

Gaui's really are built like a tank and survive crashes vary well. That was one of the reasons I landed on my X5. I'm debating about trying an ikon on my next heli build after reading more about them.

I agree that they are built like tanks that comes from their narrow stiff frames, but they had their fair share a QC problems. The X7 is on its 3rd revision, but they have it figured out The new X7FZ seems to be going through some growing pains, but they'll get it figured out.

I've tried Vbar, IKON/Brain, Beast X, and Skookum over the years. I've found that the IKON is my personal favorite because it tunes so easily, and fly's really well on stock settings. Although, the Vbar can feel so natural, but takes work to get it there. They all are really good units, no matter what you chose anymore.

The X5 is definitely legendary status along with the X7 as far as great machines. I got stung on the X2 years back, and they thing was riddled with issues. I was afraid to buy another Gaui until now.

What are you thinking about next for an airframe?

Not sure but I have a new unbuilt Trex 450 Pro that I picked up a while ago for a really good price. I was planning on putting it into an Air Wolf fuselage that currently has Trex Plus DFC mechanics with a Align 3G MRS fbl. The Pro came with a Align 3GX but I'm undecided if I'm going to use it.

You whirly guys speak English;)? Maybe any photos of what some of these things are so I can start to figure out what a Gaui or Xbar are. I don't know beans about flying things without wings, but figure something like this could fit well with the places I have to fly (the West End near Paradox).
