More control, more regulation. Thus making more 'criminals' that do not follow bad laws.

When every toy is a drone, freedom is lost…  my 2 cents.

What's next, model airplanes, gliders, free flight, etc?
It seems too many of the drone operators got noticed.

The wildcat stupid people causing the problems aren't the type to join AMA, use common sense, show concern about public safety…….you get the idea.

From what I have read they may be looking to classify all RC planes as drones, doesn't matter that only a minority are 'bad' people…  our government has a track record of punishing all due to the actions of the few.

I hope it works out for you all, but I am not positive it will.

I don't know about the rest of the members here but I do not own nor operate a drone. If you watch the press conference you will see there is a lot of terms thrown out there like drones, model aircraft, and uas. They are used in the same context.

So far it doesn't seem that they are going after the modeler as much as a "drone" operator. What is a drone, and by definition it is a unmanned aircraft that is autonomous.  My models definitely don't  fly themselves.

The AMA has taken on "Drone" enthusiasts with the rest of us. I think its a mistake myself since these people do not share the same common goal as we do. Either way, we are all in this together. I know that these rules are a bunch of crap, but if you follow the rules you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

The AMA also stated that they may require us to put our AMA number, and/or names on our aircraft. FAA can find our aircraft a lot easier than the pilot. They are counting on someone messing up, and finding our info on our model. Big question is who is going to police these laws, and they say that they are putting it out there that there will be major consequences to pay if you get caught. By who, I don't know.

Here's the video, and I suggest watching this press conferenceUS Department of Transportation Press Conference - YouTube.

So let me ask this. How long has the gov't asked us to register guns, and how many guns are out there unregistered? Yeah, that works… its a joke.

The AMA National Model Safety Code stipulates on line 2f, that members have their name and address and/or their AMA membership number located on the inside or outside of the model aircraft. Thus being AMA members, to fly at our airfield, we are already registered. The FAA can look each one of us up as we are on file at the AMA. Does this sound correct?

Who will police this? Who is going to make us put that on our models like the DMV makes us put license plates on our cars. All this is going to do is show who is honest, and probably not going to break the rules. How about the Joe Blow that doesn't care and just wants to do stupid crap with his DJI Phantom? Makes me want to not follow the rules because no one else is going to either.

Sorry Anthony, I feel even more emotional about our beloved government, with a small "g". I think, that as MMAA members, we are already registered and do NOT have to register. Unfortunately, with the access to very powerful technology, the less responsible ones will ruin it for those of us who are. There will be a rebellion, among us modelers, there already is. Check out the Drone Advocacy thread on RCGroups.com. It will enlighten you all.
