Weed Sprayer

Post

Pull-Behind Sprayer
Gary has proposed we buy a pull-behind weed sprayer (see the specs here) for use at the flying field. He has offered to pay the balance of whatever is not covered by member donations. (Thank You Gary!) This would really help spraying the large areas at the field!

Please make a post if you would like to comment or make a donation toward the sprayer. (No Association money will be spent on this purchase.)

I am going to make a donation toward the purchase.

Thank You!

Add a sawbuck from me.

BTW, Mike B and I went out yesterday and installed the new tire on the tractor. The drive belt had come off and the battery was dead. We jumped it, and it fired right up. We did not get the battery charged before we left, but we did take the back panel off and reinstall the drive belt. Gave it a test ride and all worked out OK. (just realized I left the key in the ignition instead of locking it up). Either Mike Balas or me may need to be around the first time that someone else tries to use it because the starting procedure is a bit quirky.   And the weeds are doing nicely.

Picked up the sprayer this afternoon. Total came to $290.64.  Thanks to everybody who pitched in! Now to figure out how to put it together. Do we have any weed spray?

Thank you Gary! There was some weed spray in the cabinet, but I am sure we will go through it quickly. I will pick some up.

We do not want to purchase Roundup in town, it's too expensive that way. I will email you to let you know where we've been getting the Roundup equivalent. We haven't been running through the 2-4d as quickly, so a purchase in town probably makes sense there. I'll check on Saturday to see how much we still have on hand. Winds are supposed to be fairly calm on Saturday, so if nothing else we can hand spray some of the stuff in the pit area. Hopefully there is at least one jug of water out there.

I will need to show a few people the ins and outs of the mower. It's not new, so it can be quirky.  Based on our last time running the tractor, the battery was dead from lack of use, but we jumped it and it did fire right up. If the tank sits there dry for a while, then the carb dries out too, and even using the choke it won't start. A bit of starter fluid has it going quickly and after that it will start normally as long as the tank doesn't dry out.

Can anybody report on the weed conditions? Do we need to plan on spraying again or has somebody taken care of it? Haven't been out there in a while.

There are some areas in the pits in need of spot spraying and some locations on the runways. The latter may be best accomplished with the boom sprayer rather than the wand. I did not have time to try firing up the tractor yesterday, but most likely the gas has evaporated from the tank. Battery may be dead too. It jump starts easily, and of course gas is not an issue if a guy remembers to bring some from home. Does the sprayer need a cigarette lighter type outlet to plug into? If so, we'll need to do a little wiring on the tractor.
