**Sunday!** April Fools Fun Fly!

Post

We are having our first fun fly on Saturday 4/1/17 at 9 AM!!! Randy has agreed to line up some fun contests. We will have the BBQ running and will have a potluck as well. We are planning a fun time so mark your calendar NOW!! Can't wait to see you out there!

We will have a field clean-up day on March 18th to get the field in shape for the Spring and this fun fly, so put that on your calendar too.

Speaking of cleaning up:

Anyone who might wish to do a little lead based prairie dog control around the flying field: it is allowed, and probably desirable at this point, but, due to some previous problems with shooting out there, there are specific rules about that activity on the property. Not the least of which is that you must hold a small game license. Also shooting must not occur when there is anyone else on the property who is not using the property for shooting prairie dogs; should anyone else show up on the property the gun must go into your vehicle; there will be no target practice on site, if you need to do that, there are thousands and thousands of public lands open to shooting. I don't have a specific copy of the rules on hand, so I may be forgetting something. If you have questions please contact a Board member before slinging lead around the place.

Unfortunately Randy is going to have to work so we are in need of a new contest leader. Any volunteers?

We have a bunch of members who could be enlisted to help out with some segment of the activities. With that in mind:
How about asking AJ if he might be interested in running some kind of drone (quad type) race over an obstacle course. Set up on the control line circle (though if it is set up on the runway, there'll be more engagement from the attendees).

Maybe Mike R. could pick up some of the slack. Maybe Gary H. I'll help run an event or two. It's possible that we have a new member or two who may not be comfortable flying in some of the events, and could take an active hand in timing, keeping score, etc.

Some of the stuff could be the following: Egg drop is always a riot; tethered balloon pop; ground obstacle course race; Take off, do 3 loops and land in the shortest amount of time; spot landing (Eric isn't allowed to compete in this one, cause the rest of us may as well just sit it out if he does); more??

Trying to just pick up the discussion here…

We could have a timed, small safety cone, ground pylon race.
How many rolls in 30 seconds. Aerobatic rolls for anything that flies, quadcopters, helicopters and airplanes.
We could have a LMR event. A Limited Motor Run event for motor gliders or regular airplanes. 30 seconds motor run then engine/motor off and see how long you can stay up and make it back to the runway. The list goes on. ;)

You guys could have fun with the LMR. Just because someone is flying a glider doesn't mean they'll win. If conditions are right, someone flying a gas powered trainer could win. Had someone out thermal me with a Kadet Senior once. Embarrassing for a glider guy.

Since  now, I'll be at the fun fly, on the 1st, Brenda has volunteered to cook for the fun fly. So, please bring what you would like cooked, Hot dogs, burgers, brats, etc. Should we check the propane tanks?

Brenda and I will bring the hot dogs and hamburgers. We might be able to bring the buns.
What fun fly events would YOU like to see happen on April 1st.? Please share your thoughts, thanks.

Any discussion on Monday night about the potential for a drone race as one of the activities?

We had as much discussion about having a drone race at the Fun Fly as FPV Drone owners we have in the Association! ;-)

That would be really cool in the future, when we get some FPV Drones in the future.

We can certainly have a "rotor" category, with different contests. Pylon racing, timed course with spot landing, air-to-air combat, etc. :-)

The options are almost endless!

The weather forecast is not wonderful right now, but for now the Fun Fly is still on. We will continue to watch the weather forecast and see what we get. Keep your fingers crossed! (Not when you are flying through! 😀)

Due to the possibility of bad weather and muddy roads, the cook has decided not to go. We might still be out there if the roads are decent. We'll keep an eye on the weather.

We don't want to destroy the runways if we get much rain. We will have to figure out another day to reschedule.
