Be Careful Tularemia is Here
Folks, I just learned that several people in Mesa County have been diagnosed with tularemia. It is generally called rabbit fever, although it is also carried by a number of rodents, including prairie dogs. It can be transmitted a number of ways, including insect bites, or by handling infected animals, either dead or alive. I'll post a little more information from CDC as soon as I get a chance. Although I'm not aware of any cases in Delta or Montrose Counties, we've got enough potential disease vectors around our flying site and most low elevation public lands to make it worthwhile to be careful. It is curable with antibiotics, but it isn't something you want to experience. Jim
