Civil Air Patrol at the Field

Post

We will be hosting the Civil Air Patrol at the Field at 9 AM on Saturday 7/23. They will be bringing their powered glider and 4 battery packs for its maiden flight. We need to have our Club trainers with Buddy Boxes AND as many members out at the field as possible. Please reply and let us know if you can make it and if you will bring a trainer & buddy box.

Thank You!

Sounds good. I can bring my motor glider if need be.

I'm going to plan on bringing my motor glider too. Since they have a motor glider, maybe some of the buddy box time can be on our motor gliders too.

I wonder if a brief discussion of thermal soaring, or a handout of some kind about that might be in order.  I know they won't have too much time for it if we focus on flying, but it may be a subject that we should bring up with them. Maybe a follow up day at the field, or other location to get them some additional air time searching for thermals could be discussed. What do you think Randy, could we pull off a quick briefing, and offer a follow up time at the field? One of our normal sailplane Saturdays maybe.

We used to have a relationship with the local CAP. Here's a photo of some of the cadets marching with our float in the parade of lights here in Montrose.  I think this may have been in the dark ages, like in the mid nineties.

Sure, a little briefing would be nice to get them up to speed on the techniques of coring a thermal and general glider techniques. This might be a good way to increase the glider driver activity in the association.

Oh, I will also bring my Kadet Senior with trainer setup.  I think we still have some bottled water in the cabinet, but not much. Will CAP bring their own stuff like that, or should we get some. Do we have any idea how many folks may attend from CAP?

I'll bring the LT-40 and the buddy box. I look forward to working with the cadets and helping to maiden their glider. We might need some fuel for the LT-40 though.

Thanks. I hope we have a good turn out for the cadets. This might be a good start to their aviation career. This is the time to plant the seeds.

Hello everyone, I finally got back to civilization. Had a great time . The weather was good the whole time at camp and got in a little partying and shooting to boot! Anyway, I plan to be at the field on saturday with my trainer and the antic bipe for a demonstration flight if needed. Looking forward to it and it is good to be back.

Hopefully it doesn't rain too much between now and then. Luckily most of my stuff can perform vertical take offs and landing's! Lol

By the way Jim, I am actually in that picture that you posted of CAP but you can't really see me cause I'm in the back with the Santa hat on. I think it was around 2001-2002. I was to only person at the time that was both in CAP and MMAA!

Good grief AJ, I forgot you were in CAP. You were just a baby. I thought the photo was several years before the move to our current field. In any case it was like a decade and a half ago. I gotta talk to you about this. So I can find out how it REALLY happened!!  Wish we'd dated all those old photos. The years all blur together for me; too many to keep straight.

I almost forgot, Mike McLain won't be able to the fly over with his RV. Turns out he'll be out of town.

The field is good and dry. Not too many weeds on the runway and no weeds in the pits. Thanks very much for de-weeding.

Looks like we will have 7 cadets and a few parents at the field on Saturday. They have a search & rescue training at Noon so they won't be able to hang out for lunch.
