Drone crashes at Yellowstone
Yeah the stupidity of people who just do what they want to do with no regard for others or for natural resources does fuel the fire under FAA. As a biologist I'm pretty incensed at the thought of people using these things to harass wildlife just to get a picture or video. The majority of the American public knows little or nothing about RC hobby aircraft. While most AMA members probably behave themselves, there is no way for AMA to effectively impact the very large number of people now flying park flyers and quad copter type aircraft with no membership in the national organization. So, what can we expect to happen? The public will eventually demand some kind of action. A bunch of dipshits are ruining it for the rest of us. I am very very glad we have our own flying site. I can see a time when even here in the west communities will ban this stuff within the cities or maybe even counties unless confined to a sanctioned location. Although AMA thinks that park flyers, including quad copter stuff, may be the salvation of our hobby, I think they are mistaken.
