Partners and Others Fun Fly

Post

We will be hosting the Partners kids again on Saturday 9/17 at 9 AM. We will have the field just for them until the next group and the public arrives at 10:30 AM. We will have the Full Scale Flyover at 11 AM so we can have the most amount of people present to enjoy! We will be BBQing hamburgers and hot dogs from 11:15 till ??? and wrap up the event about 1:30 PM.

We  need as many members present as possible and as many trainers and buddy boxes out there as we can get! We need support staff and pilots so come if you are able. It will be a fun day!!

Please post if you will be able to attend or not and if you will be bringing a trainer. And any other information you want to add....

I'm planning to be there with my Senior and buddy box. Will probably bring along my electric glider too.

I know we have 2 CAP kids as members now, but would it be of any value to see if the CAP folks would consider coming out to help? I think it'd be a good thing all around if they came out.

Has anyone called the full scale pilots yet?

Just found out that Darrel McKay (the Kitfox owner who landed at the field last year) is in Texas for work, so he's out of the picture. Don Geddes is tied up with 2 prior obligations on Saturday so will not be able to do a fly over. He will, as he's done in the past, offer an introductory 1/2 hour ride to one kid. Only thing is the kid will need to get to the Crawford airport. Don will give the winner a tour of the airport and all the aircraft based there. Sounds like a good prize.

I have not found a hand held radio to communicate with any full size aircraft that we may get to do a fly over.

See you all there. Looks like we may end up with at least 2 full size aircraft over flights. One from Olathe Spray Service at about 9:00 and another by Don Geddes at 11;00, with either the Cessna 150 or the Beech Stagger  Wing owned by Lynn French.

All trainers will have to be on the ground at those times. This is always a fun and rewarding event.

We had a great day with fabulous weather. We also made the front page of the Daily Press on Sunday. All publicity is good, right?

The number of Partners children was similar to the past several years, but we had members of the public that showed up as a result of the contacts made the prior weekend at the airport. There were 3 full size aircraft overflights: Lynn French and his Beechcraft Staggerwing, Devon Felix with his RV-4 (smoke and very low level crop duster approach), and Darwin Despain in his Varga Kachina. As in the past several years, Don Geddes from Crawford offered an introductory ride to a Parthers child as a grand prize for those at our event. We fed everyone burgers and dogs (thanks to Andrew for purchasing the food and cooking too). Each Partners child got some kind of prize to take home. I did the final clean up and as usual, the kids left very little behind.

One young fellow joined the Association, and Randy did the maiden flight on his airplane. He also buddy boxed him for a while on his airplane (see the Daily Press).

Thanks to our members who put in a good deal of effort for the day: Andrew Weaver, Randy Schneider, Terry Ryan, Eric Faber, Bror Faber, Mike Labruno, Bob Hatch, and Jim Ferguson.

We will have photos in the gallery soon. I also plan to post some information on the District IX Facebook page.
