Aerotetris F20

Post

A little while ago I picked up an aerotetris F20.   Starting a slow winter build for it.  It is the 1.9 meter (long) version, so will fit a 90mm EDF.

It is kinda like putting together a puzzle... I labeled all the pieces and have them separated out a bit.

Wow, that will be cool! They have some really neat kits available. Are they foam?

I went to the company website and that is a 3D puzzle indeed. Looks like a good final product though.

it is certainly a builders sort of kit.  Since you have to figure it all out yourself.   No arf here…

I've never seen that type of construction, before. Do they interlock and glue together?

They get glued together.  loads of pins needed to hold it all in place while the glue cures.

Eventually it starts to take shape.

Didn't you start a composite model of this some years ago?

That was the X-29.   And that plane used the f5/f20 fuse modified… so they look similar.   Actually am building this one to see how the build goes and then if good, order another to modify it into an x-29.

Since the x-29 was an unstable airplane (at least as far as I remember) has anyone successfully built an RC model of one? I can't remember seeing one.

Never mind. I did a Google search, and there have been successful models of that airplane. At least one used a gyro to help with stability issues in pitch.

Yes, there are a few out there that have been done.  Most quite unstable as people didn't do it right.   The wing twist needs to be opposite what you normally do for a wing.

I made one for 70mm edf, and it flew quite well and was very stable, no gyro's needed.

That thing was a rocket! Such an unusual shape. Looks like it should be something from a science fiction movie.
