Soling 1 meter sailboat

Greetings, Just completed a Victor Model Products Soling 1 meter sailboat. If the weather holds, I'll sail it at Confluence lake in Delta tomorrow. I've had the kit for a while and thought I would finish it and try it for a new experience. The build thread is on www.rcgroups.com if anyone is interested. Randy[br]

Weather holds? You mean rain is good sailing weather? Guess we gotta do something when you can't get to the field. Looks cool, never seen one run before. I still don't get how one moves into the wind…

Looks good! What time are you planning to go? And do you have a tiny bottle of champagne to christen her with? ;-)

The sails are like airfoils. They can pull the boat forward all but directly into the wind when the sails are properly rigged. The boat can sail up to about 10 to 15 degrees off directly into the wind, then she goes into "irons". The sails will rattle. Randy

If the weather holds, I'll need a little wind. Probably after lunch. We couldn't find a bottle small enough! Randy

Cool... how fast do they get going with a good wind? And who was the other guy there that likes sailplanes?

His name was Chris and he has a 15 meter "libelle" sailplane he flies out of North Fork airport. He was there, at Confluence Lake, with his son riding bikes around the lake and saw it sailing. I am trying to get him to join the club. He flies model airplanes. The boats will run up to 5-7 knots, maybe a little faster. Randy

Randy, that was a great video. She was clipping along pretty good at the beginning with no wind. Its funny I have been looking at sailboats recently myself. Unfortunately electric power boats have turned into "how can you much money can you afford to spend". Looking for something new enjoy on the water. Thanks again

James, your welcome. She has a pretty low drag profile so she seems to glide pretty easy in the water. The cool thing is the batteries are good for a few hours! If there is enough interest in the club, maybe we can have some boat operations as well as airplanes. This one was a Victor model products kit but you can buy them already built. Randy

Now its time to join the AMYA to get the numbers to put on your sails. Did those sails come with battens? Nice pics with the fall colors in the background. Hey, I had a contact today from a potential new member who is an electric aerobatic flyer. Just up your alley. When you aren't sailing that is.

Here is a sailboat that I built years ago and had RC in it to control rudder only. I was using a single channel 27 mhz system. I still have it and have thought of trying to get it going again.[br]
