Things that do not fly...

We have members that are into other things besides Airplanes, so I have created this sub forum for discussion of all that stuff.

Hey James. Do you have enough wind down there today to fill a sail? Up here in Crawford it is very still.

Not a whisper on california mesa. Hoping this front will hurry up and get here, while there still some daylight.

Looks like some wind tomorrow. Have to work at Delta and GJ, think I will bring the boat and take 'lunch' between them…

The forecast says it will be breezy in Delta.

Onward and Upward.

I think breezy is all my boat can handle until I add weight to the bulb somehow... Is there any sort of calculation for how much weight a boat needs depending on that keel depth?

I am not sure yet but I might make it down tomorrow. About what time might you be there?

Hard to say as it depends on how long it takes to find the problem on the system in delta. I hope to be there by 11 at the latest, but it hasn't been a smooth week so far…

Paul, mine is 1.3 kg for .4m2 of sail area, seems to be balanced.

Well, there seems to be enough wind today to sail my sailboat, and maybe I'm chicken but I am not going to drive 60 miles in a snowstorm to do it.

I stopped by the delta lake about 10am... it was too much wind for the boat. It laid over, and oddly, made a slow straight line while laid over (or is that what they are supposed to do?), diagonal across the whole lake. Took about an hour for it to get near shore, and it went right into a little sheltered area, so sailed it right too me once it got out of the strong wind.

That's the same thing that mine tried to do on my first try. Mine was laying over so that the rudder had no effect. That's when James sent his boat out to try and block the wind so it would stand up enough that the rudder would be more effective. Instead he bumped my boat enough to turn it around so it came back in. After that I modified the sail control so I could let some wind out and it would stand up better and the rudder was more effective. The last time I tried to sail there was not enough wind to make any headway, so the rudder did not work and Randy went out with his air boat and bottle on a string and towed me back in. Welcome to sail boating.
