Sailplane Talk; All things thermal and slope

Dolly is back in the cabinet (closet). In original condition. Aerotow next weekend Randy? Sunday was one of those rare days when the wind was blowing directly down the runway from the north. After each high start launch the parachute laid the line down right on the runway. So pleasant. John had the good fortune of having a group of ravens point out a thermal for him. But the birds were farting around so much that pretty quickly John had the Riser/Spirit way above them. As usual, above a certain altitude the thermal became seriously big. Just love that stuff.

RR Merlin, the fuselage is an old Sig Riser that I have had for years and rebuilt several times. Tippo gave me a wing off of a Great plains Spirit glider and Wala, the wing fit great. Flys pretty decent for an old beater. Thus the name Spriser.

I should be home in time for some towing. How's the weather looking?

The weather looks great if you want to ski or shovel snow. Need good nav lights to fly and see your plane for a couple hundred feet. Dam

Well, I've got the skis for the Telley if anyone wants to tow in the snow! I'm home now, working on the tail wheel for the Telemaster.

It looks like the weather isn't going to cooperate with your sailplane Saturday gathering. Hope it improves for your Sunday gathering later in the month.

Perhaps, it won't be too bad, if the winds stay light. The tow plane is available, otherwise, sloping anyone?

Check this out, guys. This looks like it could be fun, for a motor glider. http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2121190

Interesting. The electric sailplane Gary bought is a Spektra. I did not realize they were less than 2 meters. Nice to watch the progress of that upgrade. I'm surprised he did not build a new center section too. That one looks pretty rough. I've heard some reviews of the hobby city blade spoilers that were not complimentary. The ones from Espirit hobbies are pretty pricey for a 2 meter woody though.

Yep, I agree. The regular old style spoilers should work well enough. I think he had those from another model. Nice wing joiners, though. I might have to copy those.

I agree that the wing joiners look like winners. I am going to bookmark that thread.

Our sailplane Sunday is coming up this weekend. Bring your sailplane/glider, no matter how ugly. Powered sailplanes OK.
